About me

My name is Luís Carrasqueiro (he/him).

I'm a trainee psychotherapist at the end of a Diploma in Integrative Counselling and halfway through a Master's degree in Psychotherapy. I work relationally, and I invite you to bring all parts of ourselves to therapy. Then, with empathy and care, we can make space to understand what's hurting or not working, while also paying attention to what feels good and is working.

I have worked with and within LGBTQIA+ and indigenous communities for many years, and I am a white European, cis man. These experiences are part of my own story, and support how I work, including with those from other identities and backgrounds.

Languages

I've lived in four countries across three continents and speak four languages confidently. I can work with you in English or Portuguese (all variants), and if you'd like to bring Spanish or te reo Māori into our sessions, you're very welcome to. I also understand some French and Italian.

Past experience

Before training and finding 'a home' in therapy, I spent 30 years in senior roles across charities, industry, government and academia. This history has deepened my understanding of work pressures, life changes, my cultural awareness and ability to listen closely to people from different backgrounds.

I'm attentive to difference, and the relational, environmental and spiritual complexities of living in this world. If you're feeling hesitant about starting therapy, that's completely normal. I'd love to hear from you, at your own pace.

If you have any questions or feel ready to start, I'd be glad to hear from you. We can have a free 15 min conversation.

The logo

The logo is based on a lemniscate ribbon – the mathematical symbol for infinity – with two spiral contours. One echoes the spirals of my own ancestry; the other, like a comma signals pausing to notice what's with us. These shapes are known and drawn around the world and connect with many cultures, including the indigenous culture I am close to (ngā mihi).
